Lock Down           As covid-19 takes a firm grip over India, the central and state authorities are working in overdrive to try and curb the spread. As per latest government data, covid-19 has affected over 562 people in the country, killing ten. The Indian Centre for Medical Research (ICMR) has maintained that the virus is  still in phase 2 of transmission, which means there is no evidence of local transmission yet. As the cases climb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a complete lockdown in the country for 21 days and the Health Ministry has said states would need to earmark hospitals to exclusively treat coronavirus patients. Nivar Cyclone Cyclone Nivar is a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ that hit the southeastern coast of India in the early hours of 26 November 2020. Cyclone Nivar           After making landfall near Puducherry in the early hours of 26th November 2020, cyclone Nivar weakened into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’. No loss of life has been reported because of the cyclone. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier stated that the severe cyclone Nivar will intensify into a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ and make landfall between Mamallapuram (in Tamil Nadu, around 56 km from Chennai) and Karaikal in Puducherry, on 25th November at midnight or early hours of the 26th of November. The Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts are experiencing heavy rains and strong winds due to the impending cyclone.
